THE ARCHIVE / Themes
Diners.
A diner can suggest movement while staying firmly in place. Long bodies, rounded corners and bands of windows invite comparisons with railway cars and vehicles, but each photograph deserves a closer look at its particular construction and setting. Start with the Modern Diner or Mickey’s Diner stories, then compare the archived façades. The photographs record names and forms at a moment in time; the stories trace the documented histories of individual buildings.
